Alabama repeals sexual sterilization legislation

1935 Although no sterilizations had been reported by the end of 1927 as a result of Alabama’s legislation, subsequent versions and amendments of the law ultimately resulted in the sterilization of 224 people, making Alabama the state with the 5th lowest number of sterilizations in the United States. The law was officially repealed in 1935.
